What to Look For When Buying Dish Soap

Key factors weighted in our ranking system

Grease-Cutting Power

The primary function of dish soap is to tackle grease and food residue effectively. Products like Dawn Platinum EZ-Squeeze are renowned for their superior grease-cutting capabilities, making tough cleanups much easier.

Scent and Formulation

While performance is key, the scent and overall formulation can significantly impact your dishwashing experience. Options range from the fresh rain scent of Dawn Platinum to the natural lemon verbena of Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day, catering to different preferences for fragrance and ingredient transparency.

Value and Packaging

Consider the cost per ounce and the convenience of the packaging. Large refill jugs like the Dawn Ultra Dish Soap Refill Jug offer excellent value for frequent users, while EZ-Squeeze bottles enhance user experience.

Manual vs. Dishwasher Use

It's crucial to distinguish between hand dish soap and dishwasher detergent. Products like Cascade Platinum Plus Dishwasher Pods are specifically designed for automatic dishwashers, offering powerful cleaning without the need for manual scrubbing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions for shoppers comparing Dish Soap

What's the best dish soap for tough grease?

For most shoppers, Dawn Platinum EZ-Squeeze Dish Soap is the standout choice when it comes to tackling stubborn grease and baked-on food. Its concentrated formula is highly effective, often requiring less product to get the job done.

Can I use regular dish soap in my dishwasher?

No, you should never use regular hand dish soap in an automatic dishwasher. Hand dish soap creates excessive suds that can overflow your machine and cause damage. For dishwashers, always use a specialized detergent like Cascade Platinum Plus Dishwasher Pods.

Are eco-friendly dish soaps as effective?

Many eco-friendly dish soaps, such as Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day, offer excellent cleaning power while using more natural ingredients. While they might not always match the extreme grease-cutting of a heavy-duty conventional soap, they are highly effective for everyday dishes and preferred by those seeking a gentler alternative.

Is buying dish soap in bulk worth it?

Absolutely, buying dish soap in bulk, like the Dawn Ultra Dish Soap Refill Jug, is often a smart economic choice. It typically offers a lower cost per ounce and reduces the frequency of purchases, making it convenient for households that go through a lot of dish soap.
